Where do the days go?

Now that I’m back at work full-time, life has sped up. Our weeks go by in a whirl, with everybody busy through the week, then our weekends seem to be even busier as we try to cram dozens of activities and jobs into two short days. It all adds up to a helter-skelter headlong dash through our lives, and it can be somewhat overwhelming, at least for me. At least Eric has now finished his classes and is home working on an article and his thesis research, which translates into time to get dinner on the table and do some cleaning around the house.

Everyone is doing ok here: Charlie just learned to tie her shoelaces today, and her reading (in both French and English) is progressing rapidly. Here she is, reading to Elijah and William on our couch:

We’ve been enjoying a very warm spring, which means lots of time at the park.  Here’s a video I took of the kiddos on Easter weekend – yes, I know this was several weeks ago! My parents were down for a few days over Easter, and got to watch the children hunt for chocolate eggs all over the living room, then gorge themselves on chocolate for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Their stash of Easter chocolate ended up lasting for almost a week, despite their best efforts to consume it all in one day…

Eric and I have taken the enormous step of hiring a babysitter so we can go out occasionally on a Saturday night. This is a big development for us, and the girl doesn’t arrive until the kids are in bed, so it’s an easy job for her. So far, we’ve just gone for a drink nearby, but who knows: maybe soon we can branch out to dinner with friends, or a movie.  I definitely feel like I’m rejoining adult life when we tuck the kids in bed and then escape on a “date” for a few hours!
